The 5K Fin-Physique Challenge isn't really a challenge. It's not a sprint and definitely not a marathon. It's the beginning of a journey. A journey on the road to financially and physically wellness. And the best part of this journey, you don't have to travel alone.
I created the 5K Fin-Physique Challenge out of desperation. In a matter of 6 weeks, I erased all my hard work of dieting, boot camps, and hot sauna workouts. At the start of 2020, I made a commitment to finally hit my desired size and weight goal. I decided to put my money towards wellness and deprived myself of meeting with friends, so as not to be tempted or deterred. I even put off trips and mentally told myself daily, "Go hard or go home." And I did.
"If you don't challenge yourself, you will never realize what you can become."
But then the world was hit with COVID and with that my dreams and goals for the year came crashing down. Initially, I was fine. As an introvert, this would be easy. I already work from home so this shouldn't be too bad, so I thought. But as days turned into weeks and then months I found myself emotionally drained and unmotivated. Co-workers, friends, and family members were being laid off and some even became ill. There was an underlying tension I began to feel at work and with family members. We were all trying to deal with our new normal and it wasn't going well.
I felt something had to change soon or it was going to get real bad, so I took the last week of May off. I needed time away from work. I had to get myself together. During this time, I learned I wasn't alone. Many people in my circle were putting on weight and needed to get their finances in order. This led to the birth of the 5K Fin-Physique Challenge.
It incorporates both a financial and physical challenge. In short, the goals are to:
Save $5K
Reduce your total debt by 5%
Walk/Jog/Run 5K at least 5 times a week
Reduce your total weight by 5%
The challenge will culminate with a 5K we all participate in together and celebration of our efforts. I could't do this without accountability so I encourage you find a friend, partner, or relative to team up with. We all need the motivation and support right now. I hope our journey can serve as support and motivation to you as well.
